Laser Hair Removal
Methods such as shaving, plucking, waxing, and depilatories have long been used by women and men seeking to remove unwanted hair on various regions of the face and body. While these techniques often work to achieve one’s desired results initially, unwelcome hair tends to always return as hair follicles continue to follow their natural growth patterns. As an alternative to these temporary solutions, Dr. Daniel Mills and our skilled med spa team offer advanced laser hair removal with the LightSheer™ Diode Laser System. Designed to reduce—or even eliminate—hair growth in targeted areas, this innovative treatment can be used on all skin types and tones with minimal to no discomfort or downtime.
What Areas of the Body Can Be Treated?
The LightSheer™ Diode Laser System can be used to target undesired hair in virtually any region of the body, including:
The Laser Hair Removal Procedure
Employing a unique combination of laser parameters and revolutionary ChillTip™ protection, the LightSheer™ Diode Laser System is able to treat larger areas of skin in less time than many other hair removal techniques, including electrolysis. To begin treatment, a topical numbing agent is typically first applied to the targeted region. In addition to the patented ChillTip™ protection, this anesthetic helps minimize any potential discomfort that may be experienced. The LightSheer™ Diode Laser System is then used to meticulously deliver controlled laser energy into the skin where it is absorbed by the hair follicles’ melanin pigment and converted into heat. This elevated temperature injures each hair follicle, disabling its ability to grow hair.
Depending on the particular area being addressed, the entire laser hair removal treatment can take anywhere from a few minutes to over an hour to complete. The most commonly targeted regions—such as the upper lip, chin, bikini line, and underarms—generally require 20 minutes or less per session.
Recovery and Results from Laser Hair Removal
Immediately following laser hair removal, some slight swelling and redness (similar to a mild sunburn) can be expected, which is actually a good indicator that treatment was effective. These symptoms tend to dissipate over the course of 24 hours, and makeup can be applied to conceal any discoloration. The majority of patients are able to return to work and/or resume their normal daily routines as soon as they leave our med spa.
While every individual is different, patients with lighter skin tones will usually need approximately three to six laser hair removal treatments to achieve optimal results, and those who have darker skin may require a total of four to eight treatments. In any case, laser hair removal sessions should be spaced at least six to eight weeks apart to help ensure an ideal outcome is attained. Once the full course of treatment has been performed, most men and women can expect about a 50-90% reduction of hair in the targeted region(s) with lasting results.
